Hyperfocal Distance : A Field Guide
by Varina and Jay Patel

  • What is Hyperfocal Distance?

    • Hyperfocal distance is the distance at which the lens should be focused in order to provide the maximum depth of field

    • Everything from ½ the hyperfocal distance to infinity will be “acceptably sharp” if the focus is set to the hyperfocal distance

  • Hyperfocal Distance depends on:

    • Aperture

    • Focal Length of Lens

    • Circle of Confusion

      • Circle of Confusion defines the acceptable sharpness of the final image
