Red Rock Lichen

This is a shot from Snowmass Wilderness in Colorado. We found this small park and decided to stay and take some photos… just in case the sunset put on a good show for us. The sunset was fantastic!

I selected this rock as a foreground object because it provided a good contrast against the grass and vegetation that surrounded it, and because of the beautiful lichen that was growing on it. I calculated my hyper-focal distance to make sure I could get as close to the rocks as possible. The finished image is a manual blend of 3 bracketed shots. For blending, I used our manual iHDR workflow.

I could start off like this – “Seeds of Jay Patel’s appreciation for beautiful places were planted early in his childhood….” but it would get boring really fast. I will just sum it up and say that I am a Landscape and Wilderness Photographer who loves to capture dramatic light. My photographs have been published in various magazines, calendars and advertising materials throughout the world.
