This photo of Trillium (Great Smoky Mountains National Park,Tennessee) showcases an analogous color scheme. Analogous colors are located next to one another on the color wheel –and when they are used together, they produce very little contrast. This minimal contrast and smooth transition between colors tends to produce images with a certain sense of serenity and comfort.
Here’s an example where I’ve used color and mood to create a bit of dynamic interest. Light from behind me lit up this beautiful field in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming). Heavy storm clouds were moving in fast. Notice the analogous color scheme –blue storm clouds and a fresh, green meadow should produce a serene and comfortable image –but those storm clouds threaten to destroy the peaceful moment. This image shows tension –a conflict between calm and chaos.

That was a very interesting tip. I did not know about this. This could be a new photography project for me. I’ve done single color images, opposite color images. But have not been aware of analogous colors. So,thank you!
So glad to hear it,Melli! I hope you enjoy this new challenge. Good luck!
