Recording Session 1 – Nature Photography,Equipment,and Research
Session one is for students of all skill levels, and will focus on the basics of Nature Photography. After a brief discussion of composition and light,we will move on to discuss the equipment we use and how we use it. We will also talk about what it takes to shoot landscapes, and the research that helps us choose our shooting locations.
Recording Session 2 –Histograms and RAW processing
During session two,we will take an in depth look at the histograms and teach students how to work with RAW files. We will explain the difference between file types and introduce the basics of Adobe Camera RAW,before walking students through the processing of sample images. Students will work to make decisions about color balance, exposure, contrast, and more as they work together on images provided by the instructors. This session is for student of all skill levels.
Recording Session 3 – Layers and Masks in Photoshop
The material presented in session three is critical to the understanding of our iHDR process. This session is recommended for intermediate and advanced students – and those who have completed sessions one and two. Students will learn the basics of layers and masks in Adobe Photoshop. Sample images will be provided, and students will work alongside the instructors as they learn to use layers, and create and refine masks. Students will learn simple and practical blending techniques, and will receive an introduction to manual High Dynamic Range blending.
Recording Session 4 – iHDR Workflow
Session four is our most advanced session. Students who wish to attend should have completed sessions one, two, and three – or should have a solid understanding of layers and masks, and a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and how it works. We will focus on processing bracketed images using our Intelligent High Dynamic Range blending techniques. Students will use critical skills from sessions two and three to process bracketed RAW images, and blend them using layers and carefully refined masks. We HIGHLY recommend completing sessions 2 &3 before at

I recently purchased Elements 10. Will I be able to execute the techniques you describe in Recording Sessions 3 and 4 with this software package?
I also have CS3,but importing RAW files from my D7000 to CS3 is a hassle…although it can be done.
You should be able to reproduce most of the techniques we discuss in sessions 3 and 4 in Elements 10 –but we don’t use the program,so we can’t help you find out which techniques will work and which ones won’t. Unfortunately,we don’t have the capacity to try the technique with all the available software products. We work with Photoshop CS5 at this time, and our recordings are based upon that program. However, all of the techniques will work in CS3.
Is it possible to watch the videos offline? Or are they streaming only?
HI Matt,
At this time the recording is available to be watched online (streaming) only because it uses Webex’s proprietary recording format. But you are allowed to watch it as many times as you like.
I am thinking of purchasing these lessons, really interested in the mask refining and iHDR sessions. I am fine with watching them online, but will they be available forever?
(It says above the videos will be “Available for at least 30 days after purchase”.
I tend to keep forgetting new techniques very easily and would definitely want the ability to keep coming back to the videos (even after 30 days))
Hello Sandeep,
We do provide downloadable materials that includes notes, sample videos and image samples that will help you remember the iHDR. We have no intention on taking down our recordings unless we change service providers or find a different recording format.
Hello Jay,Very interested in your iHDR workflow. Using Photomatix now and have used a PS (CS3) workflow in the past of stacking bracketed photos and making masks. I still think the current crop of ‘natural’HDR processing still looks ‘over processed’to me. Will your masking ebooks ’101′and ‘Mask Series Basic Blending’be a good enough foundation for your iHDR workflow session?
Thanks Jay,Bob Estremera
HI Bob,
The technique was developed by both Varina and Myself. To answer your question, the webniar offers lot more details look at Layers and Masks. It also introduces luminosity mask concept and provides notes, samples and flash video that a student can download. It may be that you will be able to pick up the materials from the eBooks…but it depends upon your learning style.
Thanks and good luck.
I am thinking of purchasing session 3 &4,but i am wondring how long they are? so I will know the right time to buy them:)
Thanks
Sessions 1-3 are approximately 2 hours long. Session 4 is about 2.5 hours. We will update the site to show that information. Thanks for pointing out that oversight.:)
Why the 30 day limit on access to the streaming vids? There’s no way thru Cisco’s Webex to provide unlimted access to the purchased vids? The 30 day limit is the only reason I hesitate to buy sessions 1 thru 4
Hello Mike,
Thanks for your interest. We have the webinar available for downloads since more than a year…but we have to keep 30 days time limit in case Cisco changes their terms or we have to terminate the webinars due to some reason. We are working to get them available in downloadable version, but it will take some time.
I found this from a recent post of yours on G+ and I am very interested in doing HDR that looks natural. I have been working on that a lot lately. I have to say that I am interested in your workshop recordings but I am quite nervous about the 30 day limit. This is the kind of thing that I will want to look at more then once. I hope you consider a different delivery mechanism. Otherwise I’ll have to find a time when I can set aside a lot of time to work on learning.
I understand your concerns,Ian. We are considering other options for distributing our iHDR webinar sessions, but it is an enormous task to prepare each session for sale. I hope you’ll be patient with us!:)
Thank you Varina. I can be patient absolutely. I am curious though can you not “simply”convert the WebEx to a standard video format and then offer that? Or am I missing some higher level issues you are considering?
I’m afraid it’s not quite that simple,Ian. First and foremost,it’s a time issue. We are extremely busy, and it can’t be a top priority.:)
